Yes: you can give your students an online exam that marks itself. On Snatr you write true/false, multiple-choice or essay questions, up to 200 per exam, the server does the grading, and the answer key never reaches the student's device. Time runs out on the server, and results appear for the student and for the parent in their portal. Exams are on every plan.
4 question types: true/false, single choice, multiple choice and essay.
Up to 200 questions per exam, up to 10 options per question, and an image with each question.
Grading happens on the server, and the answer key never reaches the student's browser.
Time runs out on the server, not only in the browser.
Results reach the student, and parents see grades in their portal.
How to make a self-grading online exam on Snatr
1
Choose where the exam goes
Put the exam in a lesson inside a recorded course, or in an online group. If you have several groups in the same stage, you can assign that stage's exams to all its groups at once.
2
Choose quiz or exam
A quiz shows one question at a time, which suits a quick review. An exam shows the whole paper at once, like a paper exam.
3
Write the questions
Pick each question's type: true/false, single or multiple choice, or essay. A question can have up to 10 options, and you can add an image for a diagram or an equation.
4
Set the time and the number of attempts
Set the exam's duration; the server closes it when time is up. Set the number of attempts, where zero means unlimited.
5
Students sit it from their account
The student finds the exam in their account on your site, answers on a phone or computer, and the choice questions are graded the moment they submit.
6
Review results and mark the essays
In group exams you open the essay answers, give a mark per question and add a comment. Results then appear for the student and the parent.
What kinds of questions can I write?
There are 4 types, which cover most of what a teacher needs in an exam:
An exam can have up to 200 questions, and a question up to 10 options. You can add an image to every question, so a graph, a circuit diagram or a long equation can go in as a picture.
True or false.
Multiple choice with one correct answer.
Multiple choice with more than one correct answer.
Essay, where the student writes the answer.
How is it graded, and can a student find the answers in the page?
Grading happens on Snatr's server, not in the student's browser. The correct answers are never sent to the student's device, so no student can open the page source and pull them out.
Choice questions are graded as soon as the student submits, and the mark shows straight away. Essay questions are not graded automatically: in group exams you mark them yourself, with a mark per question and a comment for the student.
Quiz or exam? And how many attempts?
The difference is how questions are shown. A quiz shows one question at a time, which suits a quick review at the end of a lesson. An exam shows the whole paper at once, and the student moves between questions as on paper.
You decide the number of attempts: one for the monthly exam, several for practice, or zero for unlimited.
How is the time kept?
On the server. When the exam's time is up, it is up on the server, even if the student changes their device's clock or refreshes the page.
That closes a well-known trick in online exams: stopping the countdown in the browser. But the timer does not stop a student opening another tab to search, and that is listed in the limits below.
Does the exam have anything to do with opening the next lesson?
Yes. Snatr opens lessons in order, enforced by the server: the next lesson opens when the student has watched 90% of the lesson's video, or when they submit the lesson's exam.
Passing is not required for the next lesson to open; submitting is enough. So the exam makes the student stop and review before moving on, without locking the course on them if their mark is low.
Can I give one exam to all my groups?
Yes. If you have several groups in the same stage, such as the final year of secondary school, you can assign that stage's exams to all its groups at once instead of adding them group by group.
That saves a lot of time on the monthly exam, when you have many groups on different days who all need to sit the same paper.
The student sees results in their account on your site. Parents see their child's grades in the parent portal, when the child has an online account linked to them.
Each student has a report with their lesson progress, grades and attendance, which you can download as a CSV file and open in Excel.
A student who completes a course can receive a printable completion certificate with a QR code that opens a verification page on your site, so anyone can check it is genuine.
Parents are not sent the grade by WhatsApp or SMS. They log in to the portal and see it themselves.
Google Forms is a good, free and flexible tool, and many teachers start with it. The difference is that it is not tied to your students or your lessons:
For a quick one-off quiz that does not need to be tied to a student's account, Google Forms is enough. If you set exams every week for paying students and want the grade to reach the parent, an exam inside the platform saves you copying and checking by hand.

An online exam is not a full replacement for a supervised exam at the centre when the mark feeds an important decision.
Online exam questions
How do I make an online exam for my students that grades itself?
On Snatr you write true/false or multiple-choice questions and set the time and the number of attempts. The server grades the exam the moment the student submits, and the mark appears for them and their parent.
Can a student find the correct answers in the page?
No. Grading happens on the server, and the answer key is never sent to the student's browser.
Can I stop cheating in an online exam?
Partly. Time runs out on the server, attempts are limited, and the answers never reach the page. But there is no camera proctoring and a student can open another tab, so an online exam is not a full replacement for a supervised one.
Is there a limit on the number of questions?
Up to 200 questions per exam, up to 10 options per question, and an image with each question.
Google Forms or an exam platform?
Google Forms is free, flexible and enough for a quick quiz. If your students pay and you want the grade recorded on the student's account, shown to the parent and tied to your lessons, an exam inside the platform suits you better.
How are essay questions graded?
By you. In group exams you open the student's answer, give a mark per question and write a comment.
Do parents see their child's grade?
Yes, in the parent portal on your site, when the child has an online account linked to the parent. Grades are not sent by WhatsApp.
Is there a certificate when a student completes a course?
Yes, a printable completion certificate with a QR code that opens a verification page on your site.
