Live classes

Live classes for your students inside your own platform, without Zoom

Yes: you can teach live classes inside your own platform, without Zoom or Google Meet. On Snatr, students enrolled in a group join from their account on your site, their attendance records itself, and you hand the microphone to whoever you choose. Live classes are on the Pro plan only, at 2,999 EGP a month, and a class can be started from 5 minutes before its time until 2 hours after.

Last updated:

  • The class runs inside your platform, and students watch in the browser on a phone or computer, in 720p or 360p.
  • Attendance records itself: present, or late if a student joins 10 minutes or more after the start.
  • A chat with 3 modes, raised hands, and a microphone you give and take back at any time.
  • Recording is optional, and the recording is saved encrypted among the group's lessons.
  • Live classes are on the Pro plan only, and the server checks the plan.

How to run a live class on Snatr

  1. 1

Create the group and its timetable

From the dashboard, create an online group with a timetable and sell it by the month or by the session. Students subscribe and pay on your site, or you add them yourself.

  2. 2

Make sure the class is on the timetable

Every live class has a time. If you need an extra one, say before an exam, schedule it on the timetable.

  3. 3

    Choose whether to record

Before you start, tick 'Record this class' if you want the recording saved among the group's lessons afterwards, where recording is available.

  4. 4

    Start the class on time

The start button works from 5 minutes before the scheduled time until 2 hours after. Pressing it twice opens the same class, not a new one.

  5. 5

Run the class while you teach

Pick the chat mode, see who has raised a hand, and give the microphone to a student with a question. If someone causes trouble, you can remove them.

  6. 6

End the class and check attendance

After the class, present and late students are already recorded. If you chose to record, the recording appears among the group's lessons.

What does a live class inside your platform mean?

It means the class happens on your site, not in another program. The student opens your platform, signs in, and finds the class running, with no link posted in a group and nothing to install.

The picture reaches students in two qualities, 720p and 360p. A student who is only watching needs no microphone or camera, so the class stays calm and nobody interrupts you by accident.

Only audio travels both ways. When you give a student the microphone, their voice reaches you and the rest of the class; when you take it back, they go back to watching like everyone else.

Snatr checks that whoever joins is enrolled in the group. A student without a subscription does not get in, so you are not checking names at the door.

When can I start the class?

A class starts at its scheduled time: from 5 minutes before until 2 hours after. The server enforces this; it is not just a hidden button on the page.

  • There is no 'go live now' button for an unscheduled class. If you need an extra class, schedule it and start it at its time.
  • Pressing start twice opens the same class, so students are never split across two.
  • Each group has one live class running at a time.
  • If your connection drops, the class does not close straight away. If you stay disconnected for 30 minutes, it closes itself.

How do I control the class?

You run the class from the same screen you teach from, and the tools are made for a class with many students, not a business meeting.

  • The chat has 3 modes: open to everyone, staff only, or closed.
  • Students raise a hand, and you see who is waiting and choose who speaks.
  • Give a student the microphone to ask a question, mute them, and take the microphone back.
  • Remove a student from the class if they cause trouble.
  • Close joining so nobody new can enter; students who already joined can still get back in.

Can an assistant help me run the class?

Yes. You can make one or more assistants moderators of a specific class and choose what each may do: manage microphones, mute students, manage the chat, or control joining.

A moderator helps; they do not teach in your place. They cannot broadcast, end the class or appoint other moderators. You concentrate on teaching while they answer the chat and line up questions.

Is attendance recorded automatically?

Yes. A student is marked present as soon as they join. If they join 10 minutes or more after the start, they are marked late.

That attendance is recorded against the student's account on your platform, so you know who came and who did not without counting names in the chat or asking students to type 'present'. The 10-minute rule is the same lateness rule used for QR-card attendance at the centre.

Is the class recorded?

If you want it to be. Recording is optional: before you start, you tick 'Record this class' where recording is available. Classes are not recorded automatically.

When the class ends, the recording is saved encrypted among the group's lessons, so a student who missed it can watch it like any uploaded lesson. It counts against your plan's storage, and deleting it frees the space.

Is the class protected from recording and leaks?

Partly, and we say so plainly. The live picture carries a watermark with your logo and a short code unique to each student, so a student thinks twice before posting a recording of the class. It is not proof of who recorded it, because someone technical can remove it.

But the live stream itself is not encrypted the way uploaded videos are, and screen recording works. The watermark deters; it does not prevent. If the class is recorded on the platform, that recording is saved encrypted like your other lessons.

Zoom and Meet, or live classes inside Snatr?

Zoom and Google Meet are good meeting tools, and plenty of teachers teach on them. The difference is that they are not tied to your platform or your students:

If you teach a small group for free and need neither payment nor attendance, Zoom or Meet may be enough. If you sell groups by the month or by the session, a class inside the platform saves you checking payment and attendance by hand every time.

Which plan includes live classes?

Live classes are on the Pro plan only, at 2,999 EGP a month, and the server checks the plan. Everything else, such as recorded courses, exams and centre attendance, is on every plan.

So on a smaller plan you can still sell recorded courses and groups and take centre attendance, and upgrade when you need live classes. Plan changes go through support.

Limits of live classes

  • Live classes are on the Pro plan only.
  • There is no 'go live now' for an unscheduled class. A class starts from 5 minutes before its time until 2 hours after.
  • The live stream is not encrypted, and screen recording works. The watermark only deters.
  • Recording is not automatic. You tick 'Record this class' before starting, and the recording uses your plan's storage.
  • If your connection is down for 30 minutes, the class closes itself.
  • Live attendance does not yet appear in the parent portal. For attendance, parents currently see the centre register only.

Live class questions

Should I teach on Zoom or on my own platform?

If you sell groups and want only paying students to get in, with attendance recorded automatically, a class inside your platform suits you better. For a small free group, Zoom or Meet may be enough. On Snatr, live classes are on the Pro plan.

Do students need to install anything to attend?

No. Students join from their account on your platform in the browser on a phone or computer, and the picture reaches them in 720p or 360p.

Can I go live at any time?

The class has to be on the timetable, and you start it from 5 minutes before its time until 2 hours after. If you need an extra class, schedule it.

Is the class recorded so absent students can watch it?

If you tick 'Record this class' before starting, the recording is saved encrypted among the group's lessons for students to watch later. Recording is optional and uses your plan's storage.

Can students speak and ask questions in the class?

Yes. They raise a hand, you give them the microphone, and you can mute them or take it back at any time. There is also a chat you can set to open, staff only, or closed.

How is live attendance recorded?

Automatically. A student is marked present on joining, and late if they join 10 minutes or more after the start.

What if my internet drops in the middle of the class?

The class does not close the moment you drop. If you stay disconnected for 30 minutes, it closes itself.

Are live classes on every plan?

No, on the Pro plan only, at 2,999 EGP a month. Recorded courses, exams and centre attendance are on every plan.
