For university teachers and TAs

A platform for university teachers and TAs: a course per subject, and revision before midterms and finals

If you teach university subjects outside the official lecture, through sections, revision before midterms and finals or a full course on a hard subject, Snatr gives you a site in your name to sell a course per subject, set exams with a timer kept by the server, and run live revision classes on the Pro plan. A student is signed in on one device at a time, so one account is not shared across the whole year group. Plans start at 999 EGP a month. Snatr is not the university's own system and does not connect to it.

Last updated:

  • Make a stage per faculty or year, with a course per subject split into chapters.
  • A student is signed in on one device at a time; signing in on another signs the first out.
  • Exams of up to 200 questions, with a timer kept by the server and automatic marking.
  • A TA working with you is an assistant, seeing only the screens you open for them.
  • Students cannot hand in files, there is no link to university systems, and no plagiarism check.

How do you set up your subject courses?

  1. 1

Create your account and pick a calm design

Designs such as Editorial Academic Classic, Quiet Study and Swiss Grid suit university students, and you change their text and colours without code.

  2. 2

Make a stage per faculty or year

You name the stages, such as Commerce Year 1 or Engineering Prep Year, and courses and exams are tied to them.

  3. 3

Set sign-up up for university students

Let students sign up with email and switch off what you do not need, such as the stage and the parent's phone. To check an account belongs to a real student, ask for a photo of their national ID at sign-up.

  4. 4

Upload the course chapter by chapter

Each chapter is a unit and each lesson is a video or a YouTube link, with the sheet or slides as a PDF.

  5. 5

    Schedule the final revision

Create an online revision group with set times, sell it by sessions, and start the live class on time.

A course per subject, split like the syllabus

Every course on Snatr has units and lessons, so you follow the subject's own order, chapter after chapter. Each course has a price, a discounted price, a "what you'll learn" section and an intro PDF of the syllabus.

  • A lesson is either a video you upload, with no file size limit, up to 6 hours at 720p and about 3 hours at 1080p, with uploads that resume after a dropped connection, or a YouTube link. New videos are compressed after upload so they take up less of your storage, with no quality drop you can see.
  • Each lesson takes a PDF of up to 50 MB or a link: the sheet, the slides or past-paper solutions. Only an enrolled student can open the PDF, through a link that expires after two minutes, but whoever opens it can save a copy.
  • Open one preview lesson for free so students see how you teach before paying.
  • See which lessons each student watched and export their progress and grades as a CSV file.

One account is not shared by the whole year

The biggest problem in selling to university students is one student buying and the whole year group watching on their account. On Snatr a student is signed in on one device at a time, and signing in on another signs the first one out.

Video you upload is encrypted, so download extensions, download sites and yt-dlp cannot save it, and it carries a moving watermark with the student's name. Screen recording is not blocked. The watermark makes a student think twice before posting a recording with their name on it, but it is not proof, and someone technical can remove it.

Exams like the midterm

Set a mock exam before the midterm or final, with up to 200 questions, 10 options each and a picture per question, such as a graph, table or diagram.

  • Marking happens on the server, and the answer key never reaches the student's browser.
  • The timer is kept by the server, so closing the page or changing the device clock buys no time.
  • Set the number of attempts, or leave it open for practice.
  • Group exams have an essay question that you or a TA mark, with a comment for the student.
  • There is no equation editor. Write an equation as text or put it in the question's picture.

Revision night: live from your own site

On the Pro plan you run live revision classes without Zoom. Show slides or any program from your screen, with or without your camera, and students ask in chat or raise a hand for you to give them the microphone.

  • Only students subscribed to the group get in, so you never check who paid.
  • Attendance records itself: present, or late after 10 minutes.
  • If you choose to record, the recording is saved encrypted in the group's lessons for whoever missed it.
  • A class starts from 5 minutes before its time up to 2 hours after, so it needs a slot in the timetable.

TAs and your team: each on their own work

If you have TAs or someone answering students' questions, give each an assistant account with a password you set. Every screen has its own switch, so a TA can get the exam and marking screens only, without money or settings.

An assistant can moderate a live class, running chat and microphones, without being able to broadcast or end it. Suspend their account and every session they have open ends at that moment.

Money: online, and cards at the copy shop

Students pay online in EGP by card, Fawry, Aman or a wallet such as Vodafone Cash, and the course opens by itself. You can also print prepaid cards with codes to sell at the copy shop next to the faculty; the code opens the course for the student.

  • Create a discount coupon for the first week of term, with a usage limit.
  • Sell the final revision by sessions instead of a monthly subscription.
  • Current plans: Starter at 999 EGP a month for up to 100 students; Basic at 1,999 EGP a month for up to 200 students; Pro at 2,999 EGP a month for up to 400 students.

Snatr or Moodle and Google Classroom?

Moodle and Google Classroom are used by universities themselves and are made for a known class, not for selling a course to paying students. Snatr is made for selling: a site in your name, payments and protected video. If your goal is organising an official faculty subject, the university's system suits you better.

Limits to know before you subscribe

  • Students cannot upload a file, such as a report, a project or a photo of a solution. Essay answers are typed in the exam.
  • No link to university systems such as Moodle or Blackboard, and no sign-in with a university account.
  • No plagiarism check and no camera proctoring in exams.
  • No equation editor, and no numeric-answer questions marked automatically.
  • A course certificate comes from your site, not an accredited university certificate.
  • If you are a faculty member, your university's rules on private teaching are your responsibility.
