From group to platform

How to move your students from a WhatsApp group to a platform without losing them

Move your students from a WhatsApp group in stages: open your platform and upload your paid lessons first, then post your site's link in the group with how to sign up and a clear date for the last lesson sent on WhatsApp, and make the move easy with a discount coupon, or prepaid codes for those who pay cash. Do not close the group: keep it for announcements and lesson times. On Snatr, students sign up with their mobile number, so coming from WhatsApp feels natural.

  • A group is great for announcements, but a video posted there travels to anyone, and payments are transfer screenshots you check by hand.
  • Students sign up on your site with their mobile number or email, and you choose the sign-up fields.
  • There is no import of students from an Excel file: students sign up themselves, or you create accounts by hand.
  • A coupon for the group and prepaid codes for cash payers make the first payment easier.

Move the group to the platform in 7 steps

  1. 1

Open your platform and set up its look

Sign up to Snatr, pick a design for your site, and add your name and logo. Your platform runs on a site in your name.

  2. 2

Choose what students fill in to sign up

In "Site Info" in the dashboard, choose what students enter: name, mobile and email, plus governorate, city, stage and a parent's number if you need them. Students then sign in with their mobile number or email.

  3. 3

Upload lessons and create courses and groups

Organise your work by stage, and create a course with a price or an online group sold monthly or by a number of sessions. Upload paid lessons to the platform so they are encrypted, and keep one lesson as a free preview.

  4. 4

Prepare an offer for the group

Create a discount coupon for the group's students with an end date, usable once per student. For cash payers, print cards with prepaid codes or enrol them by hand once they pay you.

  5. 5

Announce it in the group with a clear date

Post your site's link, the sign-up steps and the coupon, and set the date of the last paid lesson sent on WhatsApp. A clear date makes students sign up instead of putting it off.

  6. 6

    Help anyone who gets stuck

For a student who cannot sign up, you can create an account with a password you choose and send it to them. If they forget their password, a code reaches them by email or WhatsApp.

  7. 7

Keep the group for announcements only

After the date, paid lessons are on the platform only. The group stays the place for announcements, lesson times and links to new lessons on your site.

Why move from the group at all?

A WhatsApp group is easy and every student is on it, but once lessons are paid it shows problems that grow with your number of students:

  • A video or file posted in the group is saved on every student's phone and forwarded to anyone with one tap.
  • A student who stopped paying stays in the group until you remove them by hand.
  • Payments are Vodafone Cash transfers and screenshots you check one by one.
  • A student who joins mid-year digs for old lessons through endless messages.
  • There are no self-marking exams and no record of who watched what.

How does a platform solve that?

On a platform every lesson has its place, and a student sees only what they paid for. This is what changes when you move to Snatr:

  • Courses are split into units and lessons, so a new student finds everything in order.
  • Students pay by card, Fawry or wallets, and the course opens for them automatically with no transfers to check.
  • A monthly group closes by itself when the month ends, until the student renews.
  • Uploaded video is encrypted, and each student is signed in on one device at a time.
  • Exams mark themselves, and you see which lessons each student watched.
  • Parents can follow attendance and grades through a portal on your site, with an account you create.

Will I lose students in the move?

A few may be slow, and that is normal. What keeps losses down is making the move easy and clear: one link, short sign-up steps, a coupon with a deadline, and a date for the last lesson on WhatsApp. For a student who cannot manage the platform, create their account yourself.

If you also use a Telegram channel or unlisted YouTube, the same steps work, and this guide explains the difference between them.

Limits to know before you move

  • There is no import of students from an Excel file. Students sign up on your site themselves, or you create their accounts by hand.
  • The platform does not send WhatsApp or SMS messages to students or parents, so the group stays useful for announcements.
  • There is no app in your name in the app stores. Students open your site in their phone's browser.
  • Screen recording and filming with another phone are not blocked on any platform.
  • There is no free-forever plan, but there is a 7-day trial with no card.

Questions about moving students from WhatsApp

Can I move my group's numbers onto the platform in one go?

No, there is no import from a file. Post the sign-up link in the group and students sign up with their mobile number; for anyone who cannot, create the account by hand.

Should I close the WhatsApp group after moving?

No. Keep it for announcements, lesson times and links to new lessons, because the platform does not send WhatsApp messages. Only paid lessons move to the platform.

How do I persuade students to sign up on the platform?

Give them a reason and a date: a discount coupon for the group with an end date, a clear date for the last paid lesson on WhatsApp, and a free preview lesson to see the platform.

What does a student who pays cash do?

They buy a card with a prepaid code from you and type the code in their account, or pay you cash and you enrol them in the course from your dashboard, with no commission.

Do students sign up with a number or an email?

Either. You choose the sign-up fields, and students sign in with their mobile number or their email.

How do parents follow along without the group?

Create them an account on the parent portal on your site, where they see their child's attendance and grades. Alerts appear inside the portal, not on WhatsApp.
