What is Teachable, and who is it built for?

Teachable is an American platform that builds you a site to sell courses online. You can also sell coaching sessions, monthly content subscriptions and downloadable files on it.

You pay it a monthly subscription in dollars. In return it takes care of video hosting, the checkout page and a mobile app for students.

According to its website, more than 150,000 experts and businesses use Teachable, and the platform has served more than 100 million students in 180 countries. These are figures published on their site, not ours.

Teachable is built for an expert selling recorded courses to a global audience in English, such as a language teacher, an accountant or a fitness coach. Nothing among its features covers attendance, branches or parents.

Snatr is built for a different case: an Egyptian teacher who sells in EGP, has students online and students at a tutoring center, and wants to manage them from one place. If you are comparing Snatr with other platforms, see all Snatr comparisons.

Does Teachable work for a teacher in Egypt who sells to students in EGP?

In practice, no. Teachable's payment gateway is available in 41 countries and Egypt is not one of them, and the alternative needs a Stripe account, and Stripe does not open accounts in Egypt.

In Snatr

  • The student pays in EGP by card, with a Fawry code within 24 hours, or with a wallet such as Vodafone Cash.
  • The money goes into your Snatr wallet and becomes available to withdraw after a safety period, currently 7 days.
  • You withdraw to Vodafone Cash, InstaPay or your bank account, and the minimum withdrawal is currently 100 EGP.
  • A student who paid you cash at the center is enrolled manually, with no commission at all.
  • You do not need an account with any payment company, or a company registered outside Egypt.

In ⁨Teachable⁩

  • Its gateway (Teachable Payments) is available to teachers in 41 countries, and Egypt is not one of them.
  • The alternative is to connect your own Stripe account, and Stripe does not open accounts in Egypt.
  • The student pays by card or Link, and PayPal for one-time purchases in dollars if you connect it.
  • No Fawry, no Vodafone Cash, and no Egyptian wallet of any kind.
  • For a teacher in a supported country: it calculates taxes in 45+ countries and accepts Apple Pay and Google Pay.

This is according to Teachable's help center in October 2026. A teacher whose country is not on the list is directed to a solution called Custom Payment Gateway. Stripe is an American payment company, and the country list on its official page does not include Egypt.

So to sell on Teachable from Egypt, you would need a Stripe account in another, supported country. The old Monthly Payment Gateway is no longer available to new schools.

Link is a fast payment method from Stripe. On this alternative setup, Teachable does not calculate or collect taxes, so that falls on you.

How much commission does Teachable take, and what do you pay each month?

Teachable starts at $39 a month and also takes 7.5% of every sale. From the Builder plan at $89 there is no commission, but payment fees stay with you on every plan.

In Snatr

  • The subscription is in EGP and starts at 999 EGP a month for 100 students.
  • No commission on your sales. The online payment fee is added for the student on top of your price.
  • A student who paid cash counts toward your plan's students, with no commission.

In ⁨Teachable⁩

  • The subscription is in dollars: $39, $89 or $189 a month, and paying a year in advance saves about 22%.
  • Payment fees come out of your share, such as 3.9% + 30 cents on an international card.
  • Students you add yourself: the first 100 are free, then $0.50 per student per month.
  • No free plan: there is a 7-day trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Example: a teacher with 100 students paying 300 EGP a month

Snatr leaves you about 3,300 EGP more each month

The dollar rate is 52.39 EGP, the Central Bank of Egypt selling rate on 6 October 2026. Teachable's Builder plan ($89, or 4,663 EGP, with no commission) leaves you 25,337 EGP before payment fees. On Snatr, a student who pays online pays the payment fee on top of the 300 EGP.

These prices are from Teachable's pricing page in October 2026, all in dollars. There is also a Custom plan for large schools, priced by contacting their sales team.

Payment fees on Teachable's gateway: 2.9% + 30 cents on a US card, and 4.99% + 49 cents on international PayPal. If you connect your own Stripe account, you pay Stripe's fees for the country your account is in. If a student reverses a payment through their bank (a chargeback), Teachable charges a $15 penalty on its gateway.

The students counted in the 100 are those who paid you cash or took a free course, and $0.50 is about 26 EGP.

The calculation below assumes you have a way to receive Teachable's money at all, which is not available to a teacher in Egypt without a Stripe account abroad. So the real difference is bigger than its figures. In this example, the difference is about 3,294 EGP a month, close to 39,500 EGP a year.

Snatr's prices in EGP, and what happens if your students grow?

Snatr plans start at 999 EGP a month for 100 students, and the features are the same on all three plans, except live classes and the custom domain, which are on Pro only. If your students exceed the plan, enrollment does not close.

The plans differ in the number of students, the storage and the extra student price, and live classes and the custom domain are on the Pro plan only. There is also a custom plan priced by agreement. These prices are from October 2026.

Each extra student is charged at your plan's extra student price. If you have 120 students on the Starter plan, you pay for 20 extra students at 15 EGP each, which is only 300 EGP.

And if you have 200 students paying 300 EGP (60,000 EGP a month), Snatr's Basic plan leaves you 58,001 EGP. On Teachable, the Builder plan leaves you 55,337 EGP and the Starter plan leaves you 53,457 EGP, both before payment fees.

In short: The full details and what each plan includes are on the Snatr pricing page.

Video protection on Teachable and Snatr: which one prevents downloads better?

Snatr encrypts the video you upload, so well-known download tools cannot download it. Teachable blocks some download extensions, and its security page does not mention key-based encryption or a watermark with the student's name.

In Snatr

  • The video is encrypted, and the key to open it goes to a locked component inside the browser, not to the page.
  • Download extensions, paste-your-link sites and programs like yt-dlp cannot download it.
  • A moving watermark with the student's name, so any screen recording shows their name.
  • A student is signed in on one device at a time: signing in on a new device signs the old one out.
  • Storage is 50 to 300 GB depending on the plan, and extra is charged to you.

In ⁨Teachable⁩

  • Blocks right-click downloading, and blocks extensions such as HLS Downloader and SparkC.
  • You can lock the download button for any file in a lesson.
  • The app blocks screenshots, and offline viewing works inside the app only.
  • 1 TB of video space on every plan, and each extra terabyte is $15 a month.
  • Key-based encryption or a watermark with the student's name: not mentioned on its security page.

At Snatr we measured the protection: the file without the key comes out as noise, with a similarity to the original of 10.6 dB. With the key it comes out intact at 59.9 dB. The higher the number, the closer the picture is to the original. Teachable has not published any measurement like this.

Teachable itself says openly that fully preventing content theft is impossible, because anything on the internet can be copied with software or by recording. That is true on Snatr too: screen recording and a phone filming the screen are not prevented, and the watermark only deters.

On iPhone, iPad and Safari, video on Snatr plays normally, and ready-made download tools still fail. But the protection is weaker against a technically skilled person. This protection covers uploaded video only, so if the lesson is a YouTube link, it is not encrypted.

In short: The full details are on the Snatr video protection page.

Does Teachable have live classes and exams?

Snatr has live streaming inside your platform on the Pro plan, without Zoom or Google Meet. Teachable connects your classes to Zoom through your own account. Self-grading exams exist on both.

In Snatr

  • Students watch on your platform, with chat and raise hand, and you can give a student the mic.
  • Class attendance is recorded automatically: present or late.
  • Assistants can act as moderators for mics, chat and joining.
  • Exams and homework grade themselves, and grades are visible to the student and the parent.
  • A printable completion certificate with a QR check, but no AI tools.

In ⁨Teachable⁩

  • A block in the lesson opens a Zoom meeting from your account, and Zoom is outside the scope of Teachable's support.
  • The class recording is saved in your Zoom account, subject to your plan there.
  • Teachable's mobile app does not show Zoom inside the lesson.
  • Self-grading quizzes and short-answer questions on every plan.
  • Certificates from the Growth plan, and AI tools (Create with AI) on every plan.

Class recording on Snatr is a feature that gets switched on, and when it is on, the recording is added to the students' group.

Live streaming on Snatr is not encrypted like uploaded video. It carries a watermark and a temporary link, but screen recording still works.

In short: If you run live classes every week for groups, Snatr's Pro plan saves you Zoom, and attendance is recorded automatically.

Run a center? Managing branches, attendance and parents on Teachable and Snatr

Teachable has no center management, because it is built for selling courses online. Snatr has branches, attendance, a parent portal and assistants, along with online teaching, in one account.

In Snatr

  • Branches and groups with their schedules and each group's capacity, plus sessions and attendance registers.
  • Attendance with a printed QR card for each student or by hand, and the code is signed and cannot be forged.
  • The parent sees their child's attendance and grades from a portal on your site.
  • Accounts for assistants and front desk staff, and you choose which screens each one sees.

In ⁨Teachable⁩

  • Its full feature table has no branches, no scheduled groups and no attendance register.
  • No parent portal.
  • Admin users with custom roles on the Growth plan only: 5 users at $189 a month.

Snatr has 4 ready-made permission presets: front desk, branch supervisor, academic assistant and full access. If you remove a permission from an assistant, it is removed immediately, without them having to sign out and back in.

A QR card can be photographed and sent to someone else, so this is attendance by card, not by fingerprint.

If you run a center or groups in branches and choose Teachable, you will need a separate program alongside it for this part.

In short: The details are on the Snatr center management page.

A platform in your name: the link, custom domain, design and app

Both give you a site in your name. Snatr's custom domain is on the Pro plan and the Snatr team connects it, while on Teachable it starts from Builder and you set it up. Teachable has a mobile app, and Snatr does not.

In Snatr

  • Your platform starts on a site in your name.
  • A custom domain such as mybrand.com on the Pro plan: the Snatr team buys and connects it, and the first year is free.
  • 30 ready-made designs, where you edit colors, text and images without code. The first two designs are free.
  • No mobile app in your name: the student opens your platform in the phone's browser.
  • Discount coupons as a percentage or a fixed amount, but no affiliate marketing and no marketing emails.

In ⁨Teachable⁩

  • Custom domain from the Builder plan: you buy it yourself and do the technical setup.
  • Teachable's branding stays visible on your site until you move up to the Growth plan.
  • An iOS and Android app for students on every plan, but it is named Teachable, not after you.
  • Coupons on every plan, and affiliate marketing and marketing emails from the Builder plan.

On Teachable, setting up the domain means technical records called CNAME. Teachable estimates the setup at 30 to 60 minutes, then 24 to 48 hours until it works. If you have a custom domain on it, you cannot cancel your subscription before removing it.

On Snatr, the custom domain is not available during the trial. Once it is connected, the old link redirects to it automatically, and your Google ranking moves with it.

The student opens the Teachable app and finds your courses there alongside the courses of any other school they are enrolled in. The app does not show coaching sessions, subscriptions or the community.

In short: Browse Snatr's designs before you choose, and every design has a full preview.

Does Teachable support Arabic and right-to-left writing?

Partly. Student pages on Teachable can be in Arabic, but right-to-left works on only 3 pages, and your dashboard is in English. Snatr is in Arabic from the dashboard all the way to support.

In Snatr

  • The dashboard is built in Arabic, right to left, with English as well if you prefer.
  • Your site can be in Arabic, English or both.
  • Support in Arabic on WhatsApp and by email at support@snatr.com.

In ⁨Teachable⁩

  • Arabic is one of the languages you can choose for student pages, and the whole school uses one language.
  • Right-to-left on 3 pages: the student dashboard, course browsing and course details.
  • The teacher dashboard is not translated at all, and translation does not work in the mobile app.
  • The help center is in English, and its Arabic version is empty, without a single article.

This comes from the translation article in Teachable's help center, and the Arabic help center was seen empty on 6 October 2026. Their older pages stay left-to-right even if you choose Arabic.

In short: If you or your assistants are not comfortable in English, Teachable's dashboard will wear you down every day.

How to move from Teachable to Snatr

  1. 1

Download your videos and files from Teachable

Teachable does not export a whole course at once. You download each video on its own from the course editor: the three dots above the video, then Download. The same goes for PDFs and audio, and you copy text into a Word file.

  2. 2

Export your students' and sales data

On Teachable's Users page, click Export CSV, and the file will arrive by email. From the Transactions page you can export sales the same way. These files tell you who paid for what.

  3. 3

    Open your platform on Snatr

Sign up and try Snatr free for 7 days. Choose a design for your site from the ready-made designs, and the first two designs are free.

  4. 4

Create the courses and upload the videos

Create your courses and their lessons from the dashboard. Each lesson can be a video you upload to Snatr, which gets encrypted, or a YouTube link. The protection covers uploaded video only.

  5. 5

    Add your existing students

A student who already paid you on Teachable, add them from the students screen and enroll them in the course manually. Manual enrollment carries no commission.

  6. 6

Send your students the new link

Send them the link to your new platform on WhatsApp. Keep Teachable running until everyone has moved to Snatr.

  7. 7

    Cancel your Teachable subscription

If you connected a custom domain on Teachable, remove it first, because Teachable does not let you cancel the plan while the domain is active. Then cancel the subscription.

Snatr's limits, before you sign up

We list them up front so you decide knowing everything.

  • No mobile app in your name on Google Play or the App Store. The student opens your platform in the phone's browser.
  • No affiliate marketing, no marketing emails and no AI tools.
  • No marketplace that brings you new students. Marketing is up to you.
  • Screen recording is not prevented, nor is a phone filming the screen. The watermark makes the student's name visible in any recording, but it does not prevent it.
  • On iPhone, iPad and Safari, the video plays normally, but its protection is weaker against a technically skilled person.
  • The custom domain is on the Pro plan only, and not available during the trial.
  • No installments such as valU or bank installment plans.
  • Plan changes go through support, not the dashboard.
  • No multiple teachers with split earnings on the same platform.
  • Online payment on Snatr is in Egyptian pounds only. A student abroad pays with an international card and their bank converts the amount, but there is no charging in dollars.

Frequently asked questions

Is Teachable free?

Is there an Arabic alternative to Teachable?

Yes, and Snatr is the better alternative for a teacher in Egypt. It is an Egyptian platform in Arabic that does Teachable's core job: a site in your name, courses, encrypted video, exams and online payment. Its subscription starts at 999 EGP a month, and live streaming inside the platform comes with the Pro plan.

Is Teachable a trustworthy platform?

Yes, Teachable is a large, well-known company. According to its website, more than 150,000 experts and businesses use it, and it holds a SOC 2 security certification.
