What is the Thinkific platform, and who is it built for?

Thinkific is a Canadian platform that builds you a site to sell courses online. You can also sell a student community, monthly subscriptions, coaching sessions and digital files on it.

The company was founded in 2012 in Vancouver and is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. According to its website, its customers have earned more than $4.23 billion through the platform. These are their figures, not ours.

Thinkific is built for an expert or a company selling recorded courses in English to a global audience that pays in dollars. It has strong selling tools: a student community, coupons, a mobile app and AI that writes quiz questions.

What it lacks is what an Egyptian teacher needs every day. Its payment gateway is not available in Egypt, Arabic is not one of its languages, and it has no attendance, groups or parents.

Snatr, at snatr.com, was built for exactly this case from the start. Your platform is in your name and in Arabic, the student pays in EGP, and the tutoring center and online teaching are in one account.

If you are comparing other foreign platforms, see the Snatr and Teachable comparison, or all Snatr comparisons.

Does Thinkific work for a teacher in Egypt? Payments and getting paid

In practice, it is hard. The Thinkific Payments gateway is available in 36 countries, none of them Egypt or any Arab country, and Stripe does not open accounts in Egypt. What remains is PayPal in dollars, from the Grow plan at $219.

In Snatr

  • The student pays in EGP by card, with a Fawry code within 24 hours, or with a wallet such as Vodafone Cash.
  • The money goes into your Snatr wallet and becomes available to withdraw after a safety period, currently 7 days.
  • You withdraw to Vodafone Cash, InstaPay or your bank account, and the minimum withdrawal is currently 100 EGP.
  • This payment works on every plan, and you do not need to open an account with any payment company.

In ⁨Thinkific⁩

  • Its gateway, Thinkific Payments, is available to teachers in only 36 countries, and Egypt is not one of them.
  • Thinkific advises teachers outside those countries to use Stripe, and Stripe does not open accounts in Egypt.
  • The alternative is PayPal from the Grow plan ($219), in dollars and for one-time purchases only.
  • PayPal money stays in your PayPal account, and is not transferred to the bank automatically.
  • No Fawry, no Vodafone Cash, and no Egyptian payment method of any kind.

This comes from Thinkific's help center in October 2026. Stripe's official page lists the countries it works in, and Egypt is not on it. The only Arab country on Stripe's list is the UAE.

Their help center mentions two other solutions. The first is Stripe Atlas, meaning you incorporate an American company so you can open a Stripe account. The second is to collect the money outside Thinkific, such as by Vodafone Cash, and enroll each student in the course by hand.

The good news is that Thinkific takes no commission on your sales if its gateway is not available in your country, and they state that explicitly. But PayPal's own fees come out of your share, and monthly subscriptions do not work with PayPal on Thinkific.

Thinkific pricing in EGP: what do you actually pay?

Thinkific's lowest plan is $54 a month, about 2,833 EGP. Zoom streaming starts from the $109 plan, and PayPal from the $219 plan. Snatr starts at 999 EGP, and its live classes come with the Pro plan at 2,999 EGP.

In Snatr

  • Starter: 999 EGP a month, 100 students, 50 GB, and each extra student is 15 EGP.
  • Basic: 1,999 EGP, 200 students, 150 GB, and each extra student is 10 EGP.
  • Pro: 2,999 EGP, 400 students, 300 GB, each extra student is 7 EGP, plus live classes and a custom domain.
  • The features are the same on all three plans, except live classes and the custom domain on Pro. Payment in EGP starts on the first plan.

In ⁨Thinkific⁩

  • Basic: $54 (2,833 EGP). Unlimited courses, with no Zoom and no certificates.
  • Start: $109 (5,718 EGP). Includes Zoom classes, certificates and assignments.
  • Grow: $219 (11,489 EGP). Includes PayPal for a teacher in Egypt, and no Thinkific branding.
  • An app in your name is an add-on at $199 a month, about 10,440 EGP.

Example: a teacher with 100 students paying 300 EGP a month

With 100 students, Snatr leaves you 1,800 to 10,500 EGP more each month, depending on the Thinkific plan

The dollar rate is 52.46 EGP, the Central Bank of Egypt selling rate on 7 October 2026. Thinkific prices are from its page on the same day, billed monthly. The yearly difference is about 22,000 EGP against Basic, and about 125,900 EGP against Grow. On Snatr, the student pays the online payment fee on top of the 300 EGP.

If you run live classes, the lowest Thinkific plan that works for you is Start at $109. You will also need a paid Zoom subscription, because a free Zoom account ends the class after 40 minutes.

And if you have 400 students paying 300 EGP (120,000 EGP a month), Snatr Pro leaves you 117,001 EGP. Thinkific Grow leaves you 108,511 EGP before PayPal fees. Basic has no online collection for a teacher in Egypt, so you would collect from 400 students and enroll them by hand every month, and the 100 GB of viewing will run out fast. See Snatr's prices in detail.

Thinkific free plan: is it really free, or are there fees?

There is no free plan on Thinkific right now. Their pricing page says a plain "No", and offers a 30-day free trial instead. After the trial, the lowest plan is $54 a month.

In Snatr

  • A free 7-day trial, then the lowest plan is 999 EGP a month.
  • Your site closes when the trial ends without a subscription.
  • The custom domain is not available during the trial.

In ⁨Thinkific⁩

  • A free 30-day trial with the whole platform and the AI tools.
  • You can cancel or change plans at any time, even during the trial.
  • The old Free plan only covers old accounts, and is not open to new sign-ups.

If you read that Thinkific has a free plan with one course and no commission, that is outdated. Thinkific's pricing page and FAQ page both say in October 2026 that there is no free plan.

For the accounts still on the old Free plan, Thinkific made its gateway mandatory from 2024 in the US, Canada, the UK and Europe. That gateway carries payment fees on every sale, such as 2.9% and 30 cents in the US. So even the old free plan was not free of fees.

Thinkific's trial is longer, 30 days. But 30 days will not make a difference if the payment gateway does not work in your country in the first place.

In short: Try Snatr free for 7 days, build your first course, and see your site yourself before you pay.

Video protection on Thinkific: can a student download the lessons?

Thinkific lets you hide the download button, and has a Private setting that makes the video link temporary. But key-based encryption is not mentioned, and neither is a watermark with the student's name. Snatr encrypts the video, and well-known download tools fail.

In Snatr

  • The video is encrypted, and the key to open it goes to a locked component inside the browser, not to the page.
  • Download extensions, paste-your-link sites and yt-dlp cannot download it.
  • A watermark that moves across the video, carrying the student's name.
  • A student is signed in on one device at a time: signing in on a new device signs the old one out.
  • Your plan counts the space your videos take up, from 50 to 300 GB.

In ⁨Thinkific⁩

  • Video is hosted by a company called Wistia, and you can hide the download button and block copying text.
  • The Private setting makes the link temporary, but you turn it on yourself, and it does not block screen recording.
  • You add the watermark yourself in an editing program before uploading.
  • Thinkific says there is no way to stop students from sharing one account.
  • A monthly viewing limit: 100 GB on Basic, 200 on Start, and 400 on Grow.

At Snatr we measured the protection. The file without the key comes out as noise, with a similarity to the original of 10.6 dB. With the key it comes out intact at 59.9 dB. The higher the number, the closer the picture is to the original. Thinkific has not published any measurement like this.

Thinkific's viewing limit matters if you have many students. At the settings Thinkific itself recommends (1080p), an hour of viewing is about 2.5 GB, and less if the student watches at lower quality. So the 100 GB on Basic covers about 40 hours of viewing a month for all your students together. If you go past the limit, you get up to 60 days to act, after which your account may be moved to a higher plan or your dashboard may be paused.

Screen recording is not blocked on Snatr or on Thinkific. On Snatr the watermark makes the student's name visible in any recording. On iPhone, iPad and Safari, the video plays normally, but its protection is weaker against a technically skilled person. This protection covers uploaded video only, not a YouTube link.

In short: The full details are on the Snatr video protection page.

Does Thinkific have live classes and exams?

Snatr has live streaming inside your platform on the Pro plan at 2,999 EGP, without Zoom. Thinkific connects your classes to Zoom through your account, from the Start plan at $109. Self-grading exams exist on both.

In Snatr

  • Students watch on your platform, with chat and raise hand, and you can give a student the mic.
  • Class attendance is recorded automatically: present or late.
  • Assistants can moderate the mics, chat and joining.
  • Exams and homework grade themselves, and the grade is visible to the student and the parent.
  • A printable completion certificate, with a QR code that opens a verification page on your site.

In ⁨Thinkific⁩

  • The live lesson opens Zoom in a new page outside Thinkific, and Zoom does not work on Safari.
  • A free Zoom account ends the class after 40 minutes, and the recording is saved in the Zoom account.
  • One Zoom account per site, so you cannot run two classes at the same time.
  • Multiple-choice quizzes, and an AI question generator on every plan.
  • Completion certificates from Start, but in Latin characters only, and Arabic is not supported.

On Thinkific, Zoom by default asks the student to sign in with a Zoom account, and you can turn that off in its settings. No reminder messages are sent to students before class automatically. If you want a timed exam with a set number of attempts, Thinkific refers you to another tool called Brillium.

Class recording on Snatr is a feature that gets switched on, and when it is on, the recording is added to the students' group. Live streaming on Snatr is not encrypted like uploaded video. It carries a watermark and a temporary link, and screen recording still works.

In short: If you run live classes every week for groups, Snatr's Pro plan saves you Zoom and its subscription, and attendance is recorded automatically.

Run a center? Does Thinkific manage attendance, branches and parents?

No. Thinkific is built for selling online, and has no attendance, branches, groups or parent portal. Snatr has all of that, along with online teaching, in one account.

In Snatr

  • Branches and groups with their schedules and each group's capacity, plus sessions and attendance registers.
  • Attendance with a printed QR card for each student or by hand, and the code is signed and cannot be forged.
  • The parent sees their child's attendance and grades from a portal on your site.
  • Accounts for assistants and front desk staff, and you choose which screens each one sees.

In ⁨Thinkific⁩

  • Their help center says there is no dedicated product for in-person classes.
  • Their suggested solution for an in-person class: a one-lesson course with the time and place.
  • Team members: one person on Basic, 2 on Start, and 6 on Grow.
  • Ready-made roles: site admin, course admin, or group analyst.

Snatr has 4 ready-made permission presets: front desk, branch supervisor, academic assistant and full access. If you remove a permission from an assistant, it is removed immediately, without them having to sign out and back in.

A QR card can be photographed and sent to someone else, so this is attendance by card, not by fingerprint.

If you run a center and choose Thinkific, you will still need a notebook or another program for attendance and parents, plus a way to collect the money.

In short: The details are on the Snatr center management page.

The branch attendance screen in the Snatr dashboard: choosing the branch, group and session, an attendance register with students' names and each one's status as present, late, absent or excused, and a button to scan a student's QR card
A session attendance register at a branch on Snatr, a part that does not exist on Thinkific. The data shown is an illustrative example.

A platform in your name: the custom domain and app on Thinkific and Snatr

Both give you a site in your name. Thinkific's custom domain is on every plan and you connect it yourself, while on Snatr it is on the Pro plan and the Snatr team connects it. Thinkific has a mobile app, and Snatr does not.

In Snatr

  • Your platform starts on a site in your name.
  • A custom domain such as mybrand.com on the Pro plan: the Snatr team buys and connects it, and the first year is free.
  • 30 ready-made designs, where you edit colors, text and images without code. The first two designs are free.
  • No mobile app: the student opens your platform in the phone's browser.

In ⁨Thinkific⁩

  • A custom domain on every paid plan: you buy it from another company and do the technical setup yourself.
  • Thinkific's branding stays visible on your site until the Grow plan.
  • A free Thinkific app for students on iOS and Android, but with no Arabic and no in-app purchasing.
  • An app in your name on Google Play and the App Store for $199 more a month.

On Thinkific, setting up the domain means a technical record called CNAME at the company you bought the domain from, and it can take up to 24 hours to work. If you cancel your subscription, the domain stops working.

On Snatr, the custom domain is not available during the trial. Once it is connected, the old link redirects to it automatically, and your Google ranking moves with it.

In short: Browse Snatr's designs before you choose, and every design has a full preview.

Selling tools and community: what Thinkific has and what Snatr has

Thinkific has a student community, affiliate reports and digital files sold on their own, and Snatr does not have these. Coupons are on both platforms. Snatr focuses on payment in EGP, the center and parents.

In Snatr

  • Discount coupons as a percentage or a fixed amount, but no affiliate marketing.
  • No student community or forum, and no marketing emails.
  • No multiple teachers with split earnings on the same platform.
  • Marketing is up to you, and you share your platform's link with your students yourself.

In ⁨Thinkific⁩

  • Discount coupons on every paid plan.
  • A student community inside your site, with spaces, discussions and events.
  • Affiliate reports, and digital files such as books sold on their own.
  • Monthly subscriptions and payment plans from Start, but they need Stripe or Thinkific's gateway, and neither is available in Egypt.

Before these tools matter to you, ask yourself where your students come from. A school student in Egypt comes from the center, WhatsApp groups and parents, not from an ad aimed at people who do not know you. That makes payment in EGP, attendance and a parent portal matter more in your daily work.

Does Thinkific support Arabic and right-to-left writing?

No. Thinkific supports 45 site languages, Arabic is not one of them, and it does not support right-to-left writing. You can write your course text in Arabic, but the buttons and menus stay in another language. Snatr is in Arabic from the dashboard all the way to support.

In Snatr

  • The dashboard is built in Arabic, right to left, with English as well.
  • Your site can be in Arabic, English or both.
  • Support in Arabic on WhatsApp and by email at support@snatr.com.

In ⁨Thinkific⁩

  • Arabic is not among the 45 site languages, nor among the app's languages.
  • Their suggested solution is custom code from a developer, and Thinkific does not support custom code.
  • Certificates use Latin characters only, so a student's name in Arabic will not appear on them.
  • The help center is in English only.
  • Human support on paid plans, Monday to Friday, 6 hours a day.

Thinkific's language settings only change the built-in text, such as the buy and sign-in buttons. The text you write is not translated. So if you write your course in Arabic, your text will be Arabic, the buttons will be in another language, and the page will run left to right.

Thinkific's support hours are 8 AM to 2 PM Pacific time (western US and Canada), which is roughly 6 PM to midnight Cairo time. Every question starts with a bot called Champ, and then you ask for a person.

In short: If you or your assistants are not comfortable in English, Thinkific will wear you down every day.

How to move from Thinkific to Snatr

  1. 1

Try Snatr before you cancel anything

Open your Snatr account and try it free for 7 days. Keep Thinkific running until you are sure everything has moved. Note that your Snatr site closes when the trial ends without a subscription.

  2. 2

    Download your videos from Thinkific

From Thinkific's video library (Video Library, or Asset Library on newer sites), click the three dots next to the video, then Download. Thinkific has no way to download all videos at once, so you will download them one by one. If the original files are on your computer, use those instead.

  3. 3

    Export your student list

On the Users page in the Thinkific dashboard, click Export, and a CSV file will arrive by email. This file has the student details you will need when enrolling them on Snatr.

  4. 4

Create your courses and set their prices in EGP

Create each course with its lessons and exams from the dashboard, and upload the videos so they get encrypted. Remember that the online payment fee is added for the student on top of your price, so choose the price you want the student to see.

  5. 5

Enroll your current students without them paying again

A student who already paid you on Thinkific, add them from the students screen and enroll them in the course manually. Manual enrollment carries no commission. Send each student your new platform link on WhatsApp.

  6. 6

    Cancel your Thinkific subscription

If you connected a custom domain on Thinkific, remove it first, because it stops working when you cancel. If any students have renewing subscriptions, cancel them, because Thinkific says they will keep being charged. Then cancel your plan.

Snatr's limits, before you sign up

We list them up front so you decide knowing everything.

  • No mobile app: no app in your name on Google Play or the App Store. The student opens your platform in the phone's browser.
  • Fewer marketing tools: no affiliate marketing, no student community, no marketing emails and no AI-generated questions.
  • The trial is only 7 days: and your Snatr site closes when the trial ends without a subscription.
  • The first plan includes 100 students: and each extra student is charged to you once when they enroll, 15 EGP on Starter.
  • Screen recording is not prevented: nor is a phone filming the screen. The watermark makes the student's name visible in any recording, but it does not prevent it.
  • Apple devices: on iPhone, iPad and Safari the video plays normally, but its protection is weaker against a technically skilled person.
  • Custom domain on the Pro plan only: and not available during the trial.
  • One teacher per platform: no multiple teachers with split earnings.
  • Plan changes go through support: not from the dashboard.
  • Built for EGP: online payment on Snatr is in Egyptian pounds only. A student abroad pays with an international card and their bank converts the amount, but there is no charging in dollars and no PayPal.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an Arabic alternative to Thinkific?

Yes, and Snatr is the better alternative for a teacher in Egypt. It is an Egyptian platform in Arabic that does Thinkific's core job: a site in your name, courses, encrypted video, exams and online payment. It also works in EGP and accepts Fawry and mobile wallets, with management for the center, attendance and parents. Its subscription starts at 999 EGP a month, and live streaming inside the platform comes with the Pro plan.

Is Thinkific a trustworthy platform?

Yes. Thinkific is a Canadian company founded in 2012 and listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Its problem for an Egyptian teacher is not trust. The problem is that its payment gateway is not available in Egypt, and Arabic is not one of its languages.

Does Thinkific take a commission on my sales?

If you are in Egypt, no. Thinkific takes 5% to 0.5% depending on the plan, but only from teachers in the US, Canada, the UK and Europe who sell through Stripe. It says explicitly that it does not take it if its gateway is not available in your country. But fees from PayPal or any payment company come out of your share.

Can I use Thinkific and collect from students by Vodafone Cash myself?

You can, and Thinkific itself suggests this if there is no payment gateway in your country. You collect the money outside the platform, then enroll each student in the course by hand or in bulk from a file. That works with a small number, but with hundreds of students every month it becomes daily work. On Snatr the student pays and is enrolled automatically.

How do I pay for a Thinkific subscription from Egypt?

Thinkific's subscription is in dollars, so you need a card that pays online in dollars. Thinkific is a Canadian company, so your bank may charge a small international transaction fee each month. At the Central Bank of Egypt rate on 7 October 2026, the lowest plan ($54) is about 2,833 EGP a month. Snatr's subscription is in EGP and starts at 999 EGP.

Does Thinkific have a mobile app in my name?

Not on the standard plan. Thinkific has a free student app called Thinkific, and an app in your name is an add-on at $199 a month, about 10,440 EGP. The free app has no Arabic, and the student cannot buy from it. Snatr has no app at all, and the student opens your platform in the phone's browser.

Does Snatr take a percentage of my sales?

No. On Snatr your full price reaches you. If the student pays online, the payment fee is added for them on top of your price, and is not deducted from you. A student who pays you cash is enrolled manually with no commission at all.

If my students exceed my Snatr plan, will enrollment close?

No, enrollment does not close. Each extra student is charged at your plan's extra student price: 15 EGP on Starter, 10 EGP on Basic, and 7 EGP on Pro.

Can I try Snatr before I pay?

Yes, there is a free 7-day trial. If the trial ends without a subscription, your site closes. The custom domain is not available during the trial. Seven days are enough to build your first course and see your site yourself.
